Senior Mechanical Engineer – Mining Projects (Mozambique or Angola, Office-based)

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to spearhead mechanical design and team leadership for major mining expansion projects. Key Responsibilities

• Lead Mechanical Engineering: Oversee all aspects of mechanical equipment packages in copper concentrator plant projects, from initial design review to construction support.
• Team Leadership: Manage and mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring high-quality deliverables and project milestones are met.
• Project Coordination: Collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal disciplines to define project scopes, design specifications, technical standards, and cost estimates.
• Technical Design & Review: Conduct and validate mechanical calculations, oversee detailed design for systems such as pumps, grinding circuits, and material handling equipment.
• Procurement & Quality: Prepare technical documentation for equipment purchasing, participate in supplier evaluations, and ensure compliance with industry codes and standards.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work effectively with designers, construction managers, and other engineering teams to unify efforts and solve complex technical challenges.
• Regulatory & HSE Support: Provide guidance on regulatory compliance and support project management to address mechanical and health & safety requirements throughout execution.

Candidate Profile

• Education: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Civil Engineering.
• Experience: At least 15 years of proven experience in mechanical engineering for the mining sector, with a strong background in copper concentrator equipment and fieldwork.
• Leadership: Demonstrated experience successfully leading technical teams on large-scale mining or industrial projects.
• Technical Skills:
  • Expertise in mechanical systems for mining (pumps, grinding, flotation cells, distribution networks, etc.).
  • Proficiency in mechanical calculations for process plants, water and slurry networks, fire protection, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to solve technical problems independently and guide junior staff.
• Language: Advanced written and spoken English is required; additional language skills (e.g., Portuguese, Spanish) are a plus.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication, project management, and interpersonal skills. High level of professional autonomy and integrity.
• Other: Willingness to be based full-time in-office on major mining sites (no relocation support provided).
